How we met/got engaged!

Written by Josh

Over the summer of 2015 and into fall, I began steadily asking God to send a girl into my life that would become my wife. This was the first thing I asked Him for each morning and the last thing I thought about prior to sleeping at night.

In the middle of October we began a community playground build at Cleveland Park where I managed the day-to-day operations of the park. As the week went on I was fortunate enough to meet some amazing people. Little did I know the love of my life would walk into our community build that week! This was the last place I expected to meet my wife and God blessed me with an amazing story on how we met.

One evening during the build I was asked to run a volunteer out to a group of people working on a project and my life changed forever in that moment. That was when I first saw Sydney and I immediately knew there was something special about this girl. As she will tell you I followed her around all evening long and I absolutely did not want that evening to end. I knew I did something right the previous night because the next evening Sydney came back to the build to help out again! As I eagerly asked for her phone number our lives changed for the better.

Over the next few months we spent countless hours together. My family knew she was special to me when I asked her to come to the Clemson football game with us one weekend. In that moment I brought her into my family/friends and she fit in like she had known each of us for years. We had such an amazing time on campus that day and I frequently look at the picture of us (our first) to reminisce about the special day we had.

As we moved into winter a massive snow storm of TWO inches hit South Carolina! With the crippling weather Sydney and I played with my nieces and Banks in the snow for hours. She bonded with more family members and I knew this was the girl I was going to be fortunate enough to spend the rest of my life with.

Throughout the next spring and summer we traveled and spent more time with one another. It was amazing to have my best friend share interests with me. We attended baseball games and golf tournaments and we traveled to the beach twice with each of our families. From 10-mile bike rides to lazy days on the beach we loved each moment together. At this point I realized I needed to make it official so Sydney and I designed her dream ring.

After an amazing road trip to Atlanta for the Clemson game and Purdue to visit with family, I planned out the engagement. For me, the scenic park where we met was the perfect place to ask the most important question of my life. Sydney met me at the playground where we met one another the previous year and we walked around the park reminding ourselves of all the fun we shared there. A few moments later she said YES! Our lives are truly better together and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us!

  1. As Josh’s mom, I can say that we all knew Sydney was the one as soon as we met her! And even before.. Josh came home from the playground build that first night telling me about the girl he met and how he prayed she would come back! God sure is good because he brought Sydney back and she is now family! We love you like our own Sydney and are so very proud of you!
