Recipe of the Week

Homemade Garrison Family Chili

So I get to call it MY chili because I truly tailored the recipe to what we like! Which is exciting because I have never veered off track while cooking EVER! Ok so let’s dive in!

Here are the ingredients I used in today chili.

Ingredients

  • A drizzle of olive oil
  • 1 pound of lean ground beef
  • 2.5 tablespoons of chili powder
  • Some Himalayan pink salt
  • Some black pepper
  • 2 cans of red kidney beans
  • 1 can of pinto beans
  • 1 can of tomato sauce
  • 2 cans of diced tomatoes
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1.5 cups of beef broth

Before you judge me!

Most people would ask “what about the onion?” and my response to that would be, well I love onion but Josh hates it so we don’t put it in our chili. But I love beans so we put ALL the beans in there! Josh also isn’t really into green peppers but I put some in there because I wanted there to be some more color in there. They say the more colorful your food is, the better it is for ya!

Another thing that makes our chili unique is I am not a huge fan of spicey things so we don’t use a ton of seasonings in our chili. To be 100% honest, I have never put beef broth in my chili before but saw it listed in some recipes and decided to throw it in there to mix things up!

How the chili came about!

Alright, so basically I browned the meat in with some olive oil, added it to the big pot. Then dumped all the rest of the ingredients in and brought it to a boil for a couple minutes. I then, dropped it to medium to low heat for 20 minutes, uncovered to simmer (stir occasionally!). MY HOUSE SMELLS SO GOOD RIGHT NOW!

TADA! There ya have it!

Leave your favorite chili ingredients in the comments! I would love to hear more ways I can switch it up!

  1. I love chili! Especially on a cold day. This looks delicious. I would cut out the chili pepper because I’m a baby when it comes to spice though 🙂 I think I’ll have to add this to a weekly menu!

  2. This looks so yum, I love a good chili especially during this cold winter. thanks for sharing this recipe.
