Hello, again friends! As you know, we have tailgated in all types of weather over the years! The type of weather that you have to get the most creative in is the rain. Today I am going to give some tips for tailgating when the heavens have opened up!
First things first, here is a list of some useful items to bring with you when you know you’ll be dealing with the rain.
- The obvious poncho. You may not need this during the tailgate but you’ll want it for the walk to the game and while sitting in the stands at the game!
- Umbrellas. This would be an annoying item to carry around at the game but it could come in handy for trips to the portapotty.
- Another pair of socks! I would definitely recommend wearing rain boots but your first pair of socks might not make it the whole day.
- Change of clothes for the ride home! There is nothing better than putting on dry clothes after a day of tailgating in the rain!
- A baseball hat! Especially to the game to keep the rain out of your eyes!
- We even go all out and wear rain pants and rain jackets with layers underneath if it is cold outside!
Tips for your Tailgate in the Rain
- Be smart about your spot! Try and find either a spot that is slanted or covered! You don’t want to post up at the bottom of a hill and be standing in a puddle all day! Find a covered area such as a walkway or under some trees.
- Bring the right equipment! Tents, sun shields, tarps, and more tarps, etc!
- Pro Tip: DO NOT GRILL UNDER YOUR TENT! You could burn a hole in your tent if you do!
- Don’t be afraid to get creative! You can easily build a gutter system with pool noodles or tarps if you plan ahead and are using more than one tent! That way you don’t have a waterfall in between your tents!
Now get out there and have some fun while staying dry!! For more tips on tailgating check out this out!
