Tips for Staying Cool at the Tailgate

Staying cool at tailgates

If you are anything like us, football season is a big deal. It takes a lot of planning and organizing. We have Clemson season tickets so that means we have at least 7 tailgates a year. We have tailgated in the rain, cold and blazing hot weather! Along the way we have gotten pretty good at preparing for anything when it comes to tailgates.

Right now we are battling the heat. Depending on game time and when they open the tailgate lots, it could mean we are out there for up to 12 hours. That’s a long time to be in the heat so we have to come prepared. I have quite a few tips to share with you today on how to stay cool during those long hours waiting for game time! Let’s check it out!

Tips for Staying Cool

Tents are kind of a no brainer. They may seem like a hassle to pack and set up but it is 1000% worth it to have that shade. Also, you can never have too many tents set up! Your tailgate crew will thank you! Tents are vital to staying cool.

Sunshades are a game changer! They simply attach to your tailgate tent to provide even more shade! Sunshades come in real handy if you are setting up a TV under your tent to get rid of any glares from the sun.

Box Fans are something we have added to our tailgate just this year and man has it already made a huge difference! It keeps some airflow on those days there is no breeze anywhere! You just plug them into your generator, hang them in the corners or set them on the ground and bam, a breeze!

Stay Hydrated by drinking a lot of water! It is very easy to get dehydrated while tailgating! Make sure you pack a cooler with lots of water to stay cool! It is very refreshing in that heat! We bring at least 2 coolers packed with drinks!

Cooling Towels can also come in handy on those super hot days and you can even bring them into the game with you! Just dip them in the cooler or get them wet somehow and put them around your neck.

Additional Tips

  • Bring a change of clothes
  • Wear a hat and get it wet if too hot
  • Say away from wearing a lot of black clothing
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothes
  • If you have an RV with water hook up, take a quick shower
  • If you bring dogs to your tailgate, keep an eye on them as well!
  • Freeze some water bottles
  • Bring a handheld fan to the game

Make sure you are being smart and safe at tailgates! The last thing you want is to get too dehydrated and hot. The heat is no joke especially when you are out in it for hours on end! Hope these tips help give you some ideas of what you can add to your tailgate this year!! More tips and tricks for tailgating to come!

Happy Tailgating!
