Snail mail

Hey friends! So I have a question, when was the last time you wrote a letter and mailed it? Not an invitation to something or a bill but an actual letter? We send emails and text messages all day long but have you forgotten about the pure joy of receiving a handwritten letter in the mail from someone?

There are a few people in my life who I can always count on to send me a letter every once in a while. And although it would be quicker to just pick up the phone, there is something about that personal touch of reading their handwriting that makes my soul happy.

One of those people is my great grandmother Kate! She has written me letters all my life and how precious it will be to have those when she is gone! I have blankets she has made for me, dish clothes and towels galore but I will cherish the words that she chooses to write to me!

Another person that I can always count on to send me letters is my momma! She is SO good at it! I will get a card for every holiday and a ton of ‘just because’ letters from her all year long! Receiving a letter tells me that the person was thinking about me!

So today I challenge you to write a letter. Whether it be to someone you haven’t talked to in a long time or your best friend that you talk to every day, the result will ultimately be the same, bringing a smile to someone’s face when they receive it! Happy writing!

I would love to hear who you choose to write your letter to and if you have any letters from family members that you cherish! So please drop that in the comments below!

  1. Sounds like a wonderful ideal to write my daughter a letter, I send cards all the time, but it is rewarding to get a hand written letter, thanks for the reminder!

  2. Isn’t it sad to think that just writing a simple letter is a dying gesture. I love getting a letter from someone. It not only is a beautiful thing to know someone cared enough to send you a note, but it causes me to pause a moment in my busy life. I sit down and can soak in the words, all the while reflecting on the person who cared enough to send a note. Sydney, I am so glad you understand the special love that is in each letter your receive. Keep putting the ink to the paper. Love ya, Mom
