Moving to South Carolina

Have you ever done something really big? Like life-changing big? Quitting your job to go backpacking? Got married in Vegas on a whim? Moving to a whole other state out of the blue? Well, I have only done one of these things but it was still a huge change!

My early 20s was full of life-changing big things. If you know me, you know that I am very spontaneous and live life by the seat of my pants. It is just who I am. I am brave, adventurous and I trust God fiercely. When I get an idea or want something and feel like God is calling me to it, I do it. Like as soon as possible. Oh, did I mention that I am not a very patient person. Lol.

From the Very Beginning

So to preface this story of me moving a little I spent the summer of 2015 staying with my aunt and uncle in Charlotte, NC. It was an incredible summer. I had spent multiple summers in the south with my grandparents but I never had a car with me so I was at the mercy of whoever I was staying at. But that summer I did it right. Oh and for those of you who don’t know, I was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana.

I got a job in Charlotte, drove myself down and was able to spend weekends in Simpsonville with my grandpa and grandma! Man did I felt like such an adult. We hiked, played on a sand volleyball team, spent evenings at the Whitewater Center, explored nearby plantations and laid around the pool every day! I was able to spend amazing quality time with my Aunt Cathi, Uncle Ryan and their two (at the time) incredible little girls, as well as my grandparents! It was a summer I will never forget!

I had dreamt of living in the south for years! You see, my dad’s boss owned a condo on Kiawah Island so most of my life we would spend at least one week there every year! We went in all seasons so I really got to know the weather in South Carolina well. I fell in love very early on!

Back Home to Indiana

So the end of the summer had come and I had driven back up to Indiana for the next semester to start. It was so depressing. I missed the south so much. So of course, I immediately started coming up with a plan to get back down there as quickly as possible! I first switched all of my classes to online, and started looking for jobs in Spartanburg, SC. I had already decided after that summer that Charlotte wasn’t really for me but I loved Greenville a lot but I wanted to be somewhere in between my aunt and uncle and my grandparents and I happened upon Spartanburg.

It just so happened that my grandma had just had her hip replaced and already had it worked out for my mom to be coming down to stay with her for a week that next month. So of course, I decided to tag along and spend the week finding a place to stay and going to job interviews!

God is SO Much Bigger Than Our Plans

Everything fell right into place that week. After driving all over Spartanburg touring apartment buildings, I found the cheapest one in the city and they happened to have an opening for a one bedroom! I had an interview with BMW set up and that went well and they scheduled me for the next step that day! Also, I was hired on the spot at Toys R Us that week too! I went back home with a move in date for an apartment and a start date for a new job!

I was Officially Moving

The craziest part of it all was I wasn’t nervous for one second. Nor was I worried that it wouldn’t work out. I felt so strongly that God was moving me to South Carolina right then for a specific reason.

To be continued……
