Holiday Toasts + Some Trivia

Do you really want to wow your family and friends this season? Come to any party prepared to make a fabulous toast! How classy right? I know! Let’s talk about toasts for a second!

Toast Tips

  • Keep it short – no one likes to hold their glass up for 15 minutes while someone babbles on.
  • Do it early on – once everyone has arrived and has had the chance to grab a drink BUT before the meal is the best time!
  • Be warm – the point of this toast is to set the mood and intention of the party. No one wants to get too deep or be a Debi downer! Make your fellow party-goers feel valued and welcome.
  • Consider starting with a short story – preferably something funny or heartwarming.
  • Express gratitude – to the host, the guests, someone!
  • Round it out with the toast – you can definitely go generic here. No need to reinvent the wheel. There are some really good toasts out there ( and below).

Classic Toasts

I have always thought it was so cool when someone pulled out a clever classic toast at a party! I have even been a witness to a toast off where the guys in the group went back and forth with all the toasts they could think of! So fun! There are several to pick from!

  • Here’s to all of us, God bless us everyone! (Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol)
  • To us and our success as a group this past year, and to you and your families for health, peace and more wonderful times in the coming year.
  • May you have the gladness of Christmas which is hope; The spirit of Christmas which is peace; the heart of Christmas which is love.
  • Here’s to the year past and friends who have left us, Here’s to the present and the friends who are here, Here’s to the New Year and the new friends who will join us. (Emily Post)
  • May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back . May the sun shine warm upon you face; The rain fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand. (Famous Irish Blessing)
  • May you live as long as you like, And have all you like as long as you live.
  • May neighbors respect you, Trouble neglect you, The angels protect you, And heaven accept you.
  • May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been, The foresight to know where your going, And the insight to know when you have gone too far.
