First Valentine’s Day as parents!

The day of love! This day has extra meaning to us last year, 2020, we started stims on Valentine’s Day. We started the process of IVF. Well this year, we had our first date, just us, since we had Brinley. It was quite the day!

Best start to any day, donuts!

We started out the day going to our favorite donut shop, Duck Donuts, and getting a variety of donuts we hadn’t tried yet! Since everything is still closed we went to a park and had breakfast in the car!

A little later in the day, Josh’s dad and stepmom came over to watch Brinley and we got to go out! At first, it was very strange leaving her. But we were starving so off to a late lunch we went.

Lunch with my hubby!

We first went to get tacos and I enjoyed my first beer in over a year! I mean, can you really beat tacos on Valentine’s Day?! It felt good to just focus on my husband and to actually make eye contact for longer than 2 seconds! No soothing a baby, no worrying about if it’s time to feed her, no shoving my food in my mouth because I only have a few minutes to eat it! We flirted and talked about life and boy was it refreshing!

The next stop was the grocery store. Sounds lame, I know, but it really wasn’t. We just leisurly walked the aisles and chatted. A nice change from the usual grocery delivery or pick up where I usually forget 2 or 3 things we needed.

Overall, for our first time both being away from Brinley, I’d say we did pretty good. I know everyone says to make sure you are still dating and making time for your marriage after you have kids. And it’s definitely true. Especially at the beginning of parenthood. I’d be lying if I said these first 6 weeks haven’t been a challenge for our marriage. SUre we are starting to get into a groove and have leaned on each other big time. But it has not been a walk in the park. There’s no way to be good at something right off the bat when you’ve never done it before. It’s just like when your newlyweds, it takes a couple of weeks or months to figure out your rhythm as a couple. The same goes, for when you add another human into the mix!

So that was our first Valentine’s Day as parents! I’d call it a success! I can’t wait to see what next year looks like! I’m betting Brinley gets a date with daddy too! Speaking of Brinley, here are some precious photos!

  1. I am so glad you two had an opportunity to spend time together. I am sure Scott and Susan enjoyed every second with Brinley Kate. It is so important to find time together. Maybe next year dad and I can come and stay with Brinley for Valentines!
