Fence Build 2019

As many of you know early last week my dad came down and helped us build a fence in our backyard. Holy moly friends, my dad is a superhero! Not only did he design and get all the supplies for our fence but he busted his butt to get it built in a mere 4 days! It was a huge job but so worth it! It has been a while since I have been a part of a big home improvement project like this so it was fun! I grew up doing big projects all the time like replacing roofs, knocking down walls, finishing basements, etc! It felt good to get my hands dirty again! I have included a day by day adventure of our fence with pictures and videos too!

Day 1

So Saturday, the first day of the project it rained. Wah wah wah. So we did what we could and cut all the posts and set everything up so we could hit the ground running Sunday morning. Overall it was great quality time with my dad! We also spontaneously flew my sister down to help with the project so it was EXTRA nice having another set of hands. Turns out we would have never finished in time without her! Love ya, sis!

Day 2

Sunday was getting the lines drawn and getting the posts in the ground. But first, we had 3 trees to cute down and drag out of the way before we could do anything with the fence! The result was great though, it opened up the backyard so much and made it feel much bigger and homie. Dang, was it a tough job. We rented a one-man auger and went to work. Dad and Josh dug the holes and Becca and I get the height right and the post level. It was a slow and tedious process. Those posts were not light in the slightest. All our backs were sore as heck by the end of the day.

Day 3

We kicked butt on Monday! I had to work a half-day and by the time I got home at lunch, Dad and Becca had most of the railings up and only had one more side to do! We powered through those by the end of the day.

Day 4

Tuesday was a busy day! We measured, cut, leveled and attached 450 slates onto the fence! It took all day but we got it done! It took all four of us! There were times when we all were so focused that we didn’t even say a word for a solid 20 minutes.

The finished product!

TADA!!!

After our third trip to the dump, we were all done!

All supplies were from Home Depot. They were so helpful every time ( all 5 times we went in 4 days) we were there! Helped us load everything, find everything and greeted us by name. The dogs ADORE the fence! The weather has been so nice that we have been able to leave them outside a lot since we have gotten the fence up! They play in the dirt, chase each other and eat lots of sticks. They are happy little pups now!
