Babies cry, a lot sometimes. It is their only way of communicating with us until they learn to talk. So the list of reasons why they may be crying can be long. Our job is to figure out why they are crying and solve the problem! Until you learn your baby, this can be a difficult task! As a new mom, I found it helpful to have a list of reasons why my baby might be crying in my head so I could go down the list and figure it out! So I thought it might be good to share that list with you! Eventually, you will learn the different cries and it will be easier to figure out the problem. This list just has the basics, there could be a zillion reasons but I always check these first and I’d say 99% of the time it’s one of them!
Hunger – This is the most common and easiest to solve! Babies don’t just want to nurse or have a bottle when they are hungry. It can be a comfort thing as well! When they are being fed, they are usually held close to you as well! They know they are safe when they are close and eating!
Dirty diaper– Some babies can’t stand to have even a wet diaper on for too long! I don’t blame them, I am sure it’s uncomfy!
Gas– This is a big one! There are a few things that can help! Bicycle kicks, gas drops, and tummy time. I also find that my little guy toots a lot when he is chilling in his bouncy seat! It can be a bit of trial and error with this one!
Sleepy– It can be tough to find that sweet spot of when exactly your little one is ready for sleep! But by paying attention to your kiddos’ routines and knowing the age-appropriate wake windows you can avoid them getting overtired (which trust me, you want to avoid that!)
Bored/Wanting attention – This may be more for your second or third babies but sometimes, my little man just wants me to chat with him! Crying is his way of getting my attention to play with him! He is only 3 months old and he already lets me know when he needs some one-on-one time! I love it! It may also be that they are bored and want to do something else.
