Christmas Eve Traditions

I wanted to let you in on what our Christmas Eve looks like this year! This is Josh & I’s first Christmas spent at home! Usually, we spend the week of Christmas in Indiana with my family. Although we have loved doing that, it is time to start making our own family traditions with our little one! So, I thought I would share a few of the traditions we are starting this year!

New Traditions for Christmas Eve

  • Matching Pjs – First off, we are going to continue a tradition that my mom started and we are going to all wear matching Christmas Pjs on Christmas Eve night and then spend all day in them on Christmas!
  • Read a Christmas Book – Nothing sweeter than curling up together as a family to read a book or two! If we don’t develop a specific favorite then maybe we will just read a new one every year!
  • Put out milk and cookies – So we probably won’t start this one until next Christmas because we will have an almost 1-year-old and that will be so fun!
  • Track Santa – This is a newer option. I remember doing this once I was older but how fun to see where Santa is in the world before you go to sleep!
  • Make Reindeer food – This was always so fun as a kid! Taking oats and carrots outside to make sure the reindeer had a snack too!
  • Go to a church service – I always loved the dim lights and singing all the Christmas songs to remember the reason for the season!
  • Exchange 1 small gift – I love this so much! A simple small gift!
  • Watch a Christmas movie – SO we may or may not do this one because it is a tradition for my family to watch a few movies on Christmas day so I don’t know if we need to be watching that much tv haha
  • Volunteer – I think it is really important to volunteer some of your time during the holidays. It doesn’t matter where or how you help out but there are so many people in need and we are so blessed. It is important to pay it forward!
  • Get takeout – With so many holiday parties and get-togethers, there has been so much cooking and baking done. It is ok to take one night off and just order in!

  1. I love your ideas! When Josh was little (I started his first Christmas), I would read “ The night before Christmas “. You can have it for Baby G’s library if you want it! ❤️
