5 Things You Have to Do to Have a Successful Blogmas

Oh wow, my first ever Blogmas just wrapped up last week and man did I learn a lot along the way! 31 posts in 31 days is a lot! It took a ton of planning, lots of hard work, and a butt load of marketing! So I thought I would share my top 5 blogmas tips to help you be successful!

What is Blogmas?

Blogmas can be run several different ways:

~12 days of Christmas

~Every other day up until Christmas

~Every day up until Christmas or of the month

The point of Blogmas is to finish the year strong and get as many eyes on your site as you can before the new year. You can also reference and refresh this content all year long!

Blogmas Tips #1 – Prioritize Value

So here’s the thing. The first thing at the top of my blogmas tips is this, you should steer clear of personal topics during Blogmas. There is a ton of advertisements and content being shoved in people’s faces in December. So people are a lot less likely to click on a blog post on your feelings about our job.

Make sure in every post you add value for your reader! Think tips, recipes, ideas, guides, etc.! Your reader should walk away from your post with something they can use! That is what will keep them on your site and keep them coming back for future posts.

Blogmas Tips #2 – Plan Ahead

This is SO important! December is a busy month for everyone! The last thing you need to be doing is staying up way too late every night frantically trying to get the next post done. This will lead to poorly written content. No one wants that.

Start early, like October and November early! Get your ideas in order and start writing. Schedule those posts and then you can just focus on promoting your daily post during actual Blogmas. You must be organized to be successful!

Blogmas Tips #3 – Be Original

Don’t just do the same post topics that every other blogger is using. You’ll get lost in the crowd! Put a unique spin on your posts! Don’t lose who you are just to crank out content. Your readers keep coming back because they want to read what you have to say, not what the generic blogger says.

Here are some ideas you can take and make your own:

  • Your Holiday Shopping Strategy
  • Gift Guides
  • Holiday Workouts
  • How to _____
  • Last Minute ______
  • Holiday Recipes
  • Gift Exchange Ideas
  • Holiday Travel
  • Favorite Holiday Traditions
  • Holiday activity printables
  • Winter Essentials
  • Decorating for the Holidays
  • Holiday-Inspired make up looks

Blogmas Tips #4 – Don’t Over Commit

If you get going and start to panic about how much you’ve set yourself up for, change your plan. 10 great posts beat 20 crappy posts any day! Just because you may have started out with a certain commitment doesn’t mean you can’t switch it up! This is your blog, you make the rules! Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to accomplish somthing you just don’t have time for.

This is why it is so important to start planning early so if you need to change your plan, you can do so!

Blogmas Tips #5 – Incentivize

I highly reccomend doing some sort of giveaway tied in with your Blogmas! Whether it be one big month long giveaway or weekly giveaways or maybe even small more specific ones. Giveaways give your readers a reason to share your posts with their friends! Which will lead to even more exposure for your blog!

There are no rules here so you can do this however you want! Big or small. I personally did weekly giveaways and changed the rules to enter each week!

Here are some examples:

Weekly Giveaway Rules – share each post to social media, comment on each daily post, follow on social media, send post to 3 friends, tag friends on posts

Monthly Giveaway – Create a prize box and share a new thing in it every week to keep people hanging on to find out what they might win!

Specific Giveaways – you can make giveaway specific to certain posts. Make them tie into the topic of the post. Or just do a giveaway on one day of the week.

Giveaway Ideas:

Have Fun With It
