4 Tips For Taking Adorable Photos Of Your Little One

As a blogger, you have to learn real quick how to take good photos! Usually on the go or with a self-timer. You don’t want to have to spend forever trying to get the best shot. Well, these skills have come in handy with capturing sweet photos of my baby girl! Those first few weeks fly by so I feel zero shame for snapping ALL the photos I could!

Now my photos are not professional status by any means but I am pretty proud of how they usually turn out! It also helps that my kid is a natural born model! Always smiling and has the brightest eyes!

You don’t need a fancy camera to capture priceless photos of your little one! Grab your phone and let’s get started! However, if you do want to invest in a camera, I highly recommend starting out with this one!

4 Simple Tips

Pay attention to the background! You want a clean background! Lay them on the rug or a blanket. Set them up in a chair or on the couch. Lay them in the crib. Hold them up out to the side when you’re outside.

Lighting is SO important! I find that natural light from the window with the overhead light OFF is the best combo! It might seem too dark but it will be 100x easier to edit that way! You can also bring up the brightness of a photo later!

If you are snapping photos on your iPhone, don’t forget about portrait mode! It will automatically make your photo look better! If you are using a DSLR, turn that flash off!

Pick your photoshoot time wisely! You will get much better photos if your little one is rested, fed, and comfortable! Also, be ready to start snapping photos right after you get them dressed! Less likely to be dealing spit up and drool spots!

Additional Tips

  • If you are attempting to take a photo of yourself AND your little set the timer to the longest option. Pro tip: If you have an apple watch, use the remote capture button option!
  • Capture the small details! Those little fingers and toes, you will be glad you did one day!
  • Candid photos will end up being your favorite. Let them play and go into stealth mode!
  • Go wide, you can always crop later!
