10 Weeks Update

Hi friends! Long time no chat! Lots of things have happened since the last time I updated you guys! We had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and at 8 weeks! We are absolutely over the moon to have made it to this milestone! 10 whole weeks of carrying and growing this sweet little babe! So I am going to give a little update and then answer a few questions I have been getting at the end! Pregnancy is absolutely amazing so far!

Sweet little nugget at 6 weeks!

PIO shots

The most exciting thing is that we have officially finished with PIO shots!! WOOHOO!! Y’all those shots are no joke! Hitting the 10 weeks milestone changes everything when it comes to the IVF world! They basically have run my life for the last 8 weeks! Every night at 9 pm we would have to be home and starting the shot routine! Not to mention that I had to stay awake every night to do it (thank you pregnancy exhaustion)! I managed to keep working out through the whole process, which I am pretty proud of because it’s not easy with giant knots in your bum! But I noticed that I had to avoid specific ‘leg day’ workouts because I would always have a bad shot reaction that night. I am assuming because those specific glute muscles were already torn and stressed from the workout that they had trouble absorbing the medicine without terrible pulsating pain! BUT once I realized this connection, I just stopped doing leg day workouts and had VERY few bad shot days then on out!

Also, I made a few more changes throughout the 8 weeks too. At the very beginning, the routine looked like this: heat area for 5 minutes, warm up medicine for a few minutes, do the shot, and then sit on a heating pad for 30 minutes. But towards the end, my routine had changed completely into this: warm-up medicine for a few minutes, do shot and that’s it. I cut out the heating of the area altogether and when I stopped having bad shot days I was too scared to start the heat back up again. So I say all of that for a couple of reasons, the first is that there is no perfect routine for these shots. Everyone’s body reacts differently so just figure out what works best for you! Also because I want to be able to reference this post when we go back for baby garrison #2. Now that I am 10 weeks and these shots are done, I can actually focus on this pregnancy and everything that comes with it!

Graduation

The next big news is that we have graduated from our infertility clinic! When we went in for our 8-week ultrasound they gave us the all-clear and sent us to my regular OB! It kind of caught me off guard because I just figured we would have another appointment at 10 weeks but that was not the case. I had lots of mixed emotions about this event. I was so excited because that means we were in a really good spot with this baby making it all the way! The doctor said our chances of miscarriage now is well below 5% and continues to drop each week! I was also a little sad because those nurses and doctors have become like family! Those sweet encouraging familiar faces had become part of my every day, just about, life! They had/have my full trust. SO it was a little tough to say goodbye.

Waiting for our 6 week ultrasound
8, almost 9 weeks. This was taken the day of our graduation.

First OB Appointment

So this past week I had my first appointment at my regular OB (which is normal at 10 weeks). It was just a nurse intake appointment but I was excited to take that next step! What I wasn’t prepared for was all the unfamiliar faces to make me feel so anxious. I had become so used to seeing my PREG nurses that it was quite the adjustment to now have a whole group of nurses and doctors to get to know. Part of me wishes that my PREG doctors could deliver this sweet babe but that is not the case. The OB I see is part of a group so I will be rotated through all the doctors in the group over the next group months and whatever doctor is on call at the time of birth is who I will have. I kind of like this system because it will help me not be so worried about if my specific doctor will be on call or if they can get to me on time etc. I go back on Monday to meet the first doctor.

Q & A

So there are a few questions I have been getting so I will answer them now!

Did I have any symptoms after our transfer? (During the two-week wait)

I did not. No implantation bleeding, no cramping. My breasts were sore but they had been from weeks from taking estrogen per my protocol.

What did you do during the two week wait?

Well, I was actually at home during my two-week wait thanks to covid-19. So I just stuck to my routine. I started a brand new devotion, worked out with my husband daily, and tried to stay as positive as I could. One thing I did not do was test at home. I wanted to enjoy those 2 weeks of being pregnant. And I did not want it to be cut short for any reason! Plus I didn’t want to get my hopes up too high and it be a false positive. So I honestly can say the thought to test early didn’t even cross my mind during that time because I had already decided I wouldn’t.

Will you find out the gender or let it be a surprise? Any names picked out for each?

This is the number one question I get all the time! And we are actually not going to find out the gender! Our reasoning is because nothing during this process has been a surprise so we are going to save this one last thing for ourselves! To answer the question of the names, yes we have a first and middle name picked out for both a boy and a girl. And we love them both! But those we will also be keeping to ourselves until we deliver.

How is Josh handling everything?

Josh is SO excited! He is going to be the best daddy! That man gave me every single one of the 50+ PIO shots like a champ! There is no way I could have given myself those shots and he wasn’t really excited to do it either! But he did so well! He basically kept our lives running while I just slept through weeks 6-9. Pregnancy exhaustion is SO real! He already talks to my belly and takes the best care of the two of us! In the beginning, I got him a first-time dad book and he reads it religiously each week so he knows what to expect from baby and me. That book is so funny! You can tell it was written by men, for men!

What have my symptoms been?

Besides the extreme exhaustion I have already mentioned, I had some nausea around week 6 & 7 but mostly when I was hungry. I also have to snack all morning because my stomach tries to eat itself until lunch. Even though I eat breakfast every morning. I’ve had some headaches and cramping as well. I’ve only had bleeding once.

Well, that is all I have for now! Many more updates to come in the future! I can’t wait until my bump pops and to start feeling them move! Stay tuned my friends! Here is a link to my last update!
