Who isn’t at least a little stressed these days? I think stress is just part of life. It may ebb and flow at different stages of life, but it can be something we all struggle with. But, we don’t have to sit with that stress. There are things we can do to help manage and even eliminate it! Number one tip, head to the backyard!
Garden
There is so much to be said about working in the dirt with your hands! Growing things, cultivating new life. Working in the yard and stepping back to see all your hard work pay off immediately is pretty satisfying! Plus you can totally listen to an audiobook or podcast while you do it! Or just meditate on the sound of nature and just chat with God! BONUS: Not into plants? Start a fairy garden! This will especially be a hit if you have small kiddos!
Exercise
Working out outside brings me so much joy! The fresh air, the sun, and the sounds of nature are all around you! I love it! Grab your mat, Airpods and pull up a YouTube video and go to town! Yoga, HIIT, weights, you name it! Bonus: gets your started on that summer tan!
Read
I particularly love to read outdoors! Especially this time of year! Before it gets blazing hot and the breeze keeps your cool! The sounds of the birds chirping or your kiddos playing is the best soundtrack to get some chapters in! You could also pop in your headphones and start an audiobook while you walk around your backyard while the kids play or even read aloud to them!
Camping
Laying under the stars! No TVs, no dishes to do, no clutter. This could take on so many shapes. Grab your husband for a date night. Do it with your kids as a fun summer adventure! Go solo for some recharge time! Camping out in the backyard is a timeless activity!
In a world where we are ambushed by all the ‘things’ we need and all the things we ‘should’ be doing, it is important to let ourselves slow down and step away. What better way to do that than right where we are! There are SO many benefits to being outside in nature! Besides maybe a few bug bites or a little sun burn, I can’t think of too many cons to it!
Bonus tip: if your little is upset or crying and you can’t figure out why, take them outside! It is an immediate reset for them!
Let me know if you try any of these! I know I will be!
